Stormwater and Flood Resilience
Our built enviroment -- homes, shops, driveways, parking areas, lawns -- has a lot of surface area where rain cannot sink it. Rain falls on this "impervious" area and just flows toward low areas, which can then be overwhelmed with a whole lot of storm water arriving suddenly. As the water from large rain events flows across developed lands, it picks up and carries pollutants rapidly into our rivers. We look for ways to make stormwater slow down, spread out, and sink in, so that it causes less flooding and less pollution.
